KPI Dashboards

Build real-time executive dashboards that surface the metrics that matter — revenue, churn, activation, and beyond.

Overview

KPI dashboards are the nerve center of any data-driven organization. This recipe walks through connecting Meridian to your data warehouse, defining metric queries, and rendering live charts that auto-refresh on a configurable cadence.

Prerequisites

  • A Meridian workspace with admin access
  • A supported data source (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, or Postgres)
  • Read-only credentials with access to your analytics schema

Step 1 — Connect Your Data Source

Navigate to Settings → Data Sources and click Add Source. Select your warehouse type, enter the connection string, and verify connectivity. Meridian encrypts credentials at rest and never logs query results.

Step 2 — Define Your Metrics

Go to Metrics → New Metric. Write the SQL that computes your KPI — daily active users, MRR, net revenue retention, or any custom aggregate. Tag each metric with a category for dashboard grouping.

Step 3 — Assemble the Dashboard

Create a new dashboard from Dashboards → New. Drag your metrics onto the canvas, choose visualization types (line, bar, number, table), and set the refresh interval. Share via a secure link or embed directly into Notion, Slack, or your internal portal.

Best Practices

  • Limit each dashboard to 6–8 widgets to avoid information overload
  • Use 24-hour trailing windows for operational KPIs, weekly cohorts for growth metrics
  • Set alerts on critical thresholds so stakeholders are notified before meetings
