Product Roadmapping
A repeatable process for turning raw ideas into a prioritized, stakeholder-aligned product roadmap that ships value every cycle.
Phase 1 — Gather Inputs
- Collect feature requests from support tickets, sales calls, and customer interviews.
- Pull product analytics: feature adoption, drop-off funnels, power-user workflows.
- Review competitor releases and market shifts. Document gaps and threats.
Phase 2 — Score & Stack
- Rate each initiative on reach, impact, confidence, and effort (RICE).
- Tag items by strategic pillar: growth, retention, platform, revenue.
- Stack-rank into Now / Next / Later buckets. Be ruthless — if everything is priority, nothing is.
Phase 3 — Socialize & Lock
- Present the draft roadmap to engineering, design, and leadership in a single review session.
- Resolve conflicts live. Capture trade-off decisions in a shared decision log.
- Publish the final roadmap with clear owner, target quarter, and success metric per item.
Phase 4 — Execute & Adapt
- Review roadmap progress every two weeks. Kill or descope items that stall.
- Re-run the scoring model quarterly. New data beats old assumptions.
Pro tip
Ship a “roadmap review” calendar invite as a recurring 90-minute block. Treat it as sacred — no reschedules. Consistency builds trust faster than any single feature.
