Recipe SEO Basics

How Meridian structures your recipe pages so search engines understand every ingredient, step, and rating.

Structured Data

Meridian emits JSON-LD Recipe schema on every recipe page. Google uses this to show rich results — star ratings, cook time, calorie counts, and thumbnail images directly in search listings.

Automatic Fields

  • name — pulled from your recipe title
  • image — first high-resolution photo in the post
  • prepTime / cookTime / totalTime — ISO 8601 duration format
  • recipeIngredient — parsed from your ingredient list block
  • recipeInstructions — each step as a HowToStep object
  • aggregateRating — from verified user reviews

Meta Tags

Every recipe page gets a unique title andmeta description tag. Titles follow the pattern Recipe Name — Meridian. Descriptions pull the first 155 characters of your intro paragraph so they display cleanly in SERP snippets.

URL Structure

Clean, keyword-rich slugs: /recipes/chocolate-chip-cookies. No query parameters, no IDs, no dates. Meridian auto-generates slugs from your title and keeps them stable across edits.

Pro Tip

Write a unique intro paragraph for every recipe. Google rewards original content — and Meridian uses that paragraph for both your meta description and the JSON-LD description field.
